How & Why I Wrote an Ebook about ... er... Writing an Ebook!

It was late March this year, it was dark and the Lockdown had well and truly set in...

I'd had one week of watching enough daytime TV to sink a ship, so much so that I thought Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby had moved in with me!

I couldn't take any more, the pubs were shut, I was eating and drinking my way through all of the totally unnecessary panic-bought items that my fridge in normal times would never have otherwise entertained so what was I going to do with my time?

I resorted to the trusty Google search as well as becoming a regular Twitter Voyeur and after ruling out becoming President of the United States I decided to write my first ebook....

The Simplest Guide to Writing an Ebook Ever! (and how to make money from it)

Then came the struggle to choose my subject. What would I write about? What did I do apart from play (and watch) football, apart from go to the pub and have a few pints? All things that would probably totally bore me myself if I was the reader! So then after a bit of wall-staring the lightbulb moment arrived - I'd write my own very first ebook about.... how to write your very first ebook!

So, pleased as punch and a few months later here it is. I know it won't be a best-seller or a Hollywood Blockbuster won't be made from it, but hopefully you'll find it useful and may inspire you (if you haven't already) to take the plunge and be able to call yourself an author!

Making Money with Twitter

Twitter is used by many affiliates to promote their own website or that of advertisers. Earning money via Twitter cannot be realized instantly. Just like building a good website, it takes time and effort to gain followers.

The first step is to choose at least a good topic. You can offer some kind of 'service' to your followers, for example 'the best bargains' or 'last minute offers'. You just have to ask yourself how many people want to be kept informed in this way via Twitter.

Another way is to choose a general topic that many people are interested in and that you as an affiliate have an affinity with. For example, start a Twitter account about making money online. People interested in this subject will then start following you, Retweet your content and potentially 'tag' you in their own outbound tweets thus creating even more followers

Rule No 1: Make your Twitter profile and your tweets attractive!

Before you even get started looking for a suitable way to make money with Twitter, I'd recommend 'pimping' your profile first. Often, earning money with Twitter and the attractiveness of your profile and tweets are inextricably linked. The explanation of this is simple: are your tweets funny or interesting, do you have more followers (and more chance of income).

But how do you make your Twitter profile attractive? Below are some tips:

  • Use your real name!
  • Use a real photo.
  • Either put one word in your biography, or make sure to mention some of your intentions and characteristics that are clearly visble & understandable. What do you want people to know about you? What do you think would be interesting for potential followers to know about you? Also find out what your perfect target group is (eg. Fellow Entrepeneurs)!
  • Add a URL (link), if necessary to a page where you can find a more extensive profile of yourself, such as your Blog.
  • Make a background your own. In other words, develop a brand to let people associate a certain pattern, image or colour with you to make your profile stand out.
  • Post or schedule a number of tweets regularly (every day).
  • Address your followers (personally) and maintain contact with your followers (engagement). Also use the word 'you' more often than 'me'. This will make your followers feel more personally addressed. Your profile will therefore look more inviting.
  • Do it slightly differently (read: better) than others in your position.

Tweet with Direct Affiliate Links

Tweet to your audience with direct affiliate links. You earn money if someone buys a product or uses a service through the link in your tweet. For example, you tweet about a holiday offer, someone comes to a website via your tweet and link and books the holiday. You will then receive a percentage of this. Or, for example, someone buys a Clickbank product through a tweet and you have signed up through their partner program.

Sponsored Tweets

It may come as a complete surprise, but you can actually directly approcah and ask companies for money for one of your tweets. All you have to do is go to the SponsoredTweets site and find sponsors there who will pay you to tweet about their products. The best thing: you have a say in the amount you earn per tweet.

This operates on a  'per click' basis, so every time someone clicks on the ad you tweet you are paid! You can choose these ads from a list of available ads, which is updated regularly. Note: You must have at least 50 followers, 100 tweets and an account that is at least 60 days old to sign up for this service!

Incidentally, make sure you are careful when posting your other tweets. If you show a lot of anti-social language or extreme political views in your tweets, sponsors will not hesitate to penalise you.

Hold a Twitter Contest

Everyone loves a competition! Something you can make everyone happy with is a prize. This gives people confirmation of their positive self-image. As a Twitter account owner or influencer you can use this. For example, try to make a deal with a local company that would like some publicity. Suggest that you run a contest on Twitter and that you get paid a percentage of their sales. At very least a simple 'RT/Follow' Competition will gain you more followers which equals...more potential sales further down the line!

How much can you earn with Twitter?

What you can earn with Twitter depends entirely on the number of followers you have, but also how relevant your tweets are. It is also important that good advertisers are active in your chosen niche.

Twitter is a less direct medium than, for example, Facebook. In addition, Twitter is very accessible, which means that the attention of a tweet is generally lower than, for example, a message on Facebook. So you also need more followers to achieve the same result.

What all successful Twitter affiliates have in common is that they know how to hit the right chord with their audience and that they work hard for it. What you often see is that they use Twitter as an extra promotional tool .

For example, they maintain a blog that they use to make money with affiliate marketing. They tweet when they have written a new piece and about other topics related to their blog. From time to time they also tweet with an affiliate link from an advertiser.

Final Tips for using Twitter successfully

- Follow other relevant accounts, they will often follow you back.
- Ask another popular Twitter account to promote your account (whether or not for a fee).
- Retweet messages from others regularly. as it will lead to regular retweets of your messages.
- Use Twitter tools such as Tweetdeck to run multiple accounts and manage tweets.
- Many people Twitter with their mobile phone, so check that the advertiser you want to promote supports mobile traffic.

How I conquered my fear of the camera!

I was always jealous of marketers who could look into a web cam and deliver a marketing message — and carry it off with style.

Whenever I tried it, I felt exposed, like a bullfighter facing a bull. His eyes glaring. Just waiting for you to make a mistake. Did I mention that I’m a bit camera-shy?

But then it occurred to me. All the top marketers show their face to the camera, so their followers can have a one-on-one experience with them. And not just the marketing superstars but everyday business people too.

I mentioned my camera shyness to a friend. He said I was too focused on myself. And he was right. I needed to focus on my message — and my audience. So rather than just staring into the camera, I decided to involve others using videoconferencing.

As I began my search for a service, my first reaction was “sticker shock.” But as I tried cheaper alternatives, I found that quality was a problem. The idea of glitches added to my anxiety.

That was around the time my email service provider, GetResponse, introduced a webinar add-on. I found I could upgrade to the Pro package, which includes webinars, for just a few extra bucks per month. So I did it!

For my first experiment, I invited a few of my clients to preview something I’ve been working on. GetResponse Pro enabled me to bring up my email marketing list and choose people to invite — very easy. And my invitees accepted.

And what was my topic? Videoconferencing :-)

So my small group enjoyed checking out the various features. We took turns in front of the camera — up to three of us at a time. Soon we were all involved, taking turns using the presentation screen, whiteboard, chat, and video player.

And we took turns leading the meeting. I noticed that my clients were just as camera-shy as I was. It’s only human. Gradually, we forgot our self-consciousness and just enjoyed ourselves.

Want to know the hardest part? You have to remember to click the “record” button. But I did it! And when I reviewed the recording afterward, I found I didn’t look nearly as awkward as I thought. And as the meeting progressed, I relaxed more and more.

Now I use it for everything. I can:

Invite followers to an online demo to introduce my business.

Deliver a sales talk to a small (or not-so-small) group of prospects.

Train new clients to use products I sell.

Collaborate on marketing projects with online partners.

Offer free webinar recordings to build interest.

Package in-depth webinars into educational courses.

Videoconferencing is now an important part of my marketing and sales funnel. Prospecting is easier and more enjoyable. Online sales presentations help me close more sales. Training classes are easier on everybody’s schedule.

I’m able to do more business in less time, thanks to videoconferencing.
